CHICAGO—The National Center for Children’s Vision and Eye Health (NVCCEH) at Prevent Blindness has named Donna Fishman, MPH, as director. She is taking over the role from Kira Baldonado, now vice president of public health and policy at Prevent Blindness. Fishman, who graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign Urbana and holds an MPH in Maternal and Child Health from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, previously served as director of training at Healthy Schools Campaign.

While she was there, Fishman worked to provide leadership training for school nurses across the country, and helped implement the Fit to Learn program for teachers in Chicago Public Schools. As director of NCCVEH, Fishman will have many roles, including providing technical assistance to federal agencies, state agencies, and national organizations on system reform strategies regarding children’s eye health.

Established in 2009, NVCCEH’s mission is to develop a coordinated public health infrastructure to promote and ensure a comprehensive, multi-tiered continuum of vision care for young children. Fishman’s experience working with mothers and children will help NVCCEH continue to reach its goals as an organization, the announcement said.
