WORCESTER, Mass.—At its annual meeting from June 20 to 23, the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) voted to give accreditation to the professional optometric degree program at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) University School of Optometry. During the meeting, the ACOE considered the report of the March 25 to 28 evaluation visit to the MCPHS University School of Optometry leading to them voting to raise the program’s accreditation classification to “Accredited.” This classification indicates that the program meets the ACOE standards with no deficiencies that compromise the educational effectiveness of the total program.

“We couldn’t be more excited to receive the ACOE’s decision,” said Dr. Morris Berman, Dean of the School. “Dedication to quality optometric education was at the heart of the tremendous effort needed to achieve this outcome. The faculty worked cohesively over several years to create an excellent program. There is a certain pride that comes with building something new. Our faculty, staff, students and graduates should all be very proud.”
