MILAN—Max Mara has teamed up with visual artist, Shantell Martin on the “Prism in Motion” project to celebrate the brand’s Spring/Summer 2017 eyewear collection.

Martin’s signature style, a use of stream-of-conscious lines and words are translated into playful Max Mara sunglasses that are wearable pieces of art.

The prism is a symbol of the many faceted sides of the contemporary Max Mara woman and when Martin thought of what the prism meant to her, she thought about the emotional connection among circles, lines and squares which inspired her to create her piece with black pen on canvas, the company said.

Martin’s original artwork was digitally reproduced and decomposed into 1,000 different limited edition pieces which were integrated into a feminine sunglass. The cat eye shaped frames were constructed with Optyl, a Safilo registered trademark for an exclusive material. This made it possible to insert small paper fragments, reproducing the artwork into each eyewear model.

As Martin explained, people will be able to “wear the [art]work, walk away with it and experience it in a completely new way.”

The new Max Mara eyewear collection will be available at Max Mara boutiques, e-commerce and high-end opticians worldwide beginning in Spring 2017. The Max Mara collection of sunglasses and optical frames are produced and distributed by Safilo Group.
