Deborah Kotob, ABOM
NEW YORK—Deborah Kotob, ABOM, an experienced optician and educator, has been named director of Education and Training for the 20/20 Group
. Kotob succeeds Mark Mattison-Shupnick, who retired from Jobson at the end of 2017 to pursue other opportunities at Enchroma. For the last 10 years, Kotob has worked at Vision Ease as a staff trainer and ECP education facilitator. She is a master optician with more than 25 years of experience in the optical industry, including frame and lens sales, and 10 years of experience in optical education and training. Prior to her position at Vision Ease, Kotob owned and operated two successful, high-end optical boutiques in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Winchester, Massachusetts.
“Jobson is thrilled that Deborah Kotob has joined the 20/20 education and training team,” stated Marc Ferrara, CEO, Information Services Division, Jobson Medical Information. “Her experience as a practicing optician, optical boutique owner/manager, and as an educational liaison between industry, sales representatives and ECPs has prepared her perfectly for her role with 20/20. Deb’s market knowledge and educational insights and experience are outstanding, and these will allow her to excel in building actionable content for our optician audience as well as valued partnerships with our industry sponsors.”
Kotob said, “I follow in the footsteps of an industry legend, Mark Mattison-Shupnick. For those who've witnessed him present a live course or enjoyed one of his continuing education courses in 20/20 magazine, you’ll agree that he’s one of a kind and irreplaceable. I wish him all the best in his new endeavor at Enchroma.
“In my new role, I’ll be doing what I love, developing optical education and training in collaboration with the immensely talented team at Jobson. I will be working closely with Linda Conlin our managing editor of Pro to Pro, to share the viewpoints, interests and challenges from an optician’s perspective.
“It was working for the lens manufacturer Vision Ease that sparked my fascination with lenses and optics and facilitated my pursuit of Master Optician accreditation. The technical nature of the content needed for lens and optics training fueled my drive to find new and better ways to develop and deliver optical education and training; whether written, in person or through e-learning,” she said.
