WHO: The popular frame looks from the 50s and 60s, sunglasses worn by the character Frenchie in Grease, the eyeliner technique that only Adele can master and of course, famous felines such as Lil Bub, Grumpy Cat and Garfield.

WHAT: As with many things in fashion, popular trends always seem to have more than one go-round in the spotlight and the cat eye silhouette is no different. In both optical and sun these frame styles can come in the more traditional cat eye look, while others are more of a cat eye 2.0. Either way, these styles are the cat’s meow!

WEAR: Frame style VO 5211-s from Luxottica’s Gigi Hadid for Vogue Eyewear collection takes the classic cat eye look and adds a modern twist. The white frame features lightly tinted blue lenses as it taps into two popular trends of the moment. The McGee Group’s Badgley Mischka Reina frame in gunmetal is a less flashy version of the cat eye silhouette. With the top of this frame sloping slightly upward instead of into a dramatic point that typically marks a traditional cat eye, this style is elevated with the textured embellishment that crosses over the top of the lenses. Tura’s Kate Young for Tura frames K504 is an ultra-glamorous sun style. This semi-rimless cat eye adds classic style to any look. Kenmark’s Zac Posen optical style Verushka is a classic and sophisticated cat eye silhouette—an elevated take on the traditional look. The frame which appears in black with slight gold accents on the pointed temple tips is a chic take on this trend.

WHY: Retro accessories are popular in both sun and optical looks even when they’ve received a modern update. These cat eye silhouettes add a bit of drama to any ensemble, and the attention getting silhouettes are perfect for any wearer hoping to make their eyes the focus of their look.
