WHITWICK, Leicestershire, U.K.—Applied Thermal Control (ATC), a U.K.-based manufacturer of scientific instruments and control technology, has been acquired by Scientific Digital Imaging (SDI) Group. The terms of the transaction were not announced.

SDI, based in Cambridge, England, is focused on the design and manufacture of scientific and technology products for use by the life science, health care, astronomy, consumer manufacturing and art conservation markets. SDI plans to grow through its own technology advancements as well as strategic, complementary acquisitions. ATC provides synergy within the existing group of companies and complements the growth strategy.

ATC, based here, specializes in designing and manufacturing precision recirculation chillers and heat exchangers for use within the scientific instrument and process control markets, working in conjunction with OEM’s and end users in the U.K. and around the world. Its chillers are used in ophthalmic laboratories for lap polishing, blocking and generating lenses. Founded in 1995, it has grown to employ 15 staff members and works alongside partners in international distributors and service agents.

“ATC represents another exciting step in our Group growth strategy. ATC is a complementary fit to the Group and provides potential areas for growth alongside a talented work force,” said Ken Ford, chairman of Scientific Digital Imaging. “The acquisition is in line with our previously announced acquisition strategy and is expected to be earnings enhancing in its first full year of ownership,” he said.
