CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.—ABB Optical Group announced that seven non-profit organizations, nominated by eyecare professionals nationwide, will receive grants from $1,000 to $5,000 for outstanding programming and community impact through the Fourth Annual ABB Cares Program.

“ABB Cares gives our industry a chance to celebrate the many inspiring organizations across the country that have a positive impact on their communities,” said Brad Weinbrum, president of ABB Optical Group. “We appreciate the eyecare professionals who took the time to nominate the charitable organizations that mean the most to them and we are proud to support our industry with ABB Cares.”

The 2017 ABB Cares grant recipients are:

Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation in Las Vegas, was nominated by The Vision Centers. Their mission is to provide the essential building blocks to children who are visually impaired. The organization will receive the Platinum ABB Cares Grant of $5,000 that will support after-school life skills and education classes.

Junior Charity League of Concord in Concord, N.C.—nominated by Invision Family Eyecare—is devoted to providing basic needs, educational programs and social services to children and families in the community. The Gold ABB Cares grant of $2,500 will fund the purchase new clothing and shoes for students in need.

Special Olympics Florida in Clermont, Fla. which also received the Gold ABB Cares Grant of $2,500, was nominated by Paul Vision Care. Their mission is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people with intellectual disabilities who wish to participate. The grant will help fund programs and services.

The mission of Mercy Health Center, nominated by Thomas Eye Center, is to provide quality, whole-person health care at no cost to low-income and uninsured individuals. Mercy Health Center will receive a Silver ABB Cares grant of $1,000 that will fund supplies needed to continue treating patients diagnosed with diabetes.

Nominated by American Vision, Plano Child Development is dedicated to identifying and evaluating educationally disadvantaged youth with underdeveloped and inefficient visual processing systems. The organization will also receive a $1,000 ABB Cares grant to help fund free vision workshops in the community and to expand the number of schools and organizations they serve.

Strathmere Volunteer Fire Company, nominated by Ocean City Vision Center, is a volunteer fire and rescue organization dedicated to saving lives. The organization will also receive a $1,000 ABB Cares grant to help fund equipment, such as bunker gear, for the volunteers.

Nominated by Eye Q Vision Care, Valley Center for the Blind provides services for the blind and visually impaired. The $1,000 ABB Cares grant will be used to set up a low vision clinic that will further establish a professional interdisciplinary rehabilitation facility for the visually impaired and blind population in the community.
